How a Pet Parent’s Unconditional Love and P3500 Capital Turned into One of the Leading Pet Name Tag Business in the Philippines - Pawtastic PH

Adopting a new puppy is one of the greatest joys in life. As you navigate the excitement of being a pet parent - you scramble to get your necessities - pet food, collar, leashes, pet pads, water and food bowls - things that were easily available back in 2017 as each pet store carried all those starter pack items for any pet owner - except for a pet name identification tag.

As a pet owner, our biggest fear is losing your pet and not having a way for your pet to come back home safely. Pet tags provide a voice for our pets to inform other hoomans how to contact their owners in case they get separated.

Pawtastic Pet Name Tags COO & Founder, Dor Chen, struggled to find a quality pet tag. The pet name tags available in the Philippines back then were subpar and flimsy. This prompted her to make her own pet name tag for her aspin puppy, Focus.

With just P3500, she bought a metal stamp set and some blank aluminum bone tags and made one for Focus. Seeing that there weren’t much sellers in the Philippines, she decided to sell the metal stamped pet tags to a familiar audience - her schoolmates in DLSU Manila.

DLSU Community Forum was her online platform where hundreds of orders flooded in - evident that there was a demand for the pet name tag product that came with personalized information.

Her college sideline later on was parked on the side since she couldn’t keep up with the demand while also trying to balance her studies and organization work.

Little did she know the pandemic boredom would revitalize her sideline business - later on investing in a machine that automated the engraving of the pet name tags for dogs and cats. She did her work for Pawtastic PH during weekends while working full time in corporate sales on weekdays until early April 2022. When she was shifting her career to the tech industry (which surprise! Didn’t push through because life had other plans) - she decided to put more effort into growing Pawtastic so she could earn money while studying again. 

What started as a part time thing turned into her full time business. Pawtastic PH is now one of the leading pet name tag business in the Philippines that offers personalized and customized pet name tags for both dogs and cats. They also have hoomum jewelry which offers personalized pawtraits of pets placed on necklaces and bracelets.
